Orthostatic hypotension: Dizziness when standing up from a lying position
When someone suddenly goes from a lying to a standing position, gravity causes blood to flow to the legs. If the blood vessels don't respond in time, the brain receives less blood for a few seconds, causing dizziness. This is called orthostatic hypotension.
Helpful tips
Before getting up, sit on the edge of the bed and move your feet and legs.
Get up slowly and carefully.
Eat a diet rich in green leafy vegetables, garlic, onions, and oily fish, as these promote good circulation.
See your doctor regularly to have your blood pressure checked.
