The art of choosing a ripe and sweet watermelon
Yellow spot (field spot / floor spot)
Description: This is the area under the watermelon where it landed on the ground and was not directly exposed to the sun.
Note: A cream to golden orange color is a very good sign. This means that the melon has had time to mature in the field and develop its sweetness. A white or even greenish spot indicates that the melon was harvested too early and is probably less sweet.
The weight
Note: Lift the watermelon. A ripe watermelon must be surprisingly heavy for its size. Watermelons are composed of more than 90% water, and a high weight indicates a high water content and therefore good juiciness and maturity. If you have two melons of the same size, always choose the heaviest.
